Frequently asked questions

How much do sessions cost?

Regular weekly counselling sessions are currently £50

Where are you located?

I work out of The Next Chapter, at 10 William Street in the West End of Edinburgh. https://thenextchapter.org/

How long are appointments?

Each session lasts 50 minutes.

Can I pay by card?

Yes, I have a card reader that you can use to pay by card in session by request. For the time being I request that you consider remote payment methods.

What can I expect at the initial appointment?

The first time we meet I'll invite you to you to tell me your story and why you've decided to come to counselling. We'll speak about how we would work together going forward and you can let me know what it is you're looking for in counselling. I'll also take some time to collect some of your details and we'll have a look at my standard counselling agreement. You can then decide whether or not you would like to continue in regular counselling. If you need to take some time to think, that's absolutely fine. You might also like to read more information about the counselling process here.

Do you have any evening or weekend appointments available?

I am not able to offer any appointments during the weekend at this time. I currently offer evening appointments on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Urgent Help Required

Unfortunately I am not able to provide crisis support. If you are worried about your safety or that of someone else and you require urgent help please contact one or more of the following resources: Your personal GP Edinburgh Crisis Centre - 0808 801 0414 The Samaritans - 116 123

Do you offer remote counselling?

No, I am not able to offer telephone or online counselling. You can find counsellors who do by using the advance search on the counselling direcory: https://www.counselling-directory.org.uk/adv-search.html

Do you offer counselling to people under the age of 18?

No, I only offer counselling to adults over the age of 18 in private practice. If you are based in Leith you could try contacting The Junction: http://the-junction.org/services/counselling/ Even if they are not able to help they may be able to point you in the direction of a service that can. Sometimes counselling is also available through schools. If you would prefer to contact a counsellor in private practice you can also use the advance search function on the counselling directory to narrow by age range or "type of client" a counsellor works with. https://www.counselling-directory.org.uk/adv-search.html

What is your cancellation policy?

If you are ill, or have been adviced to quarentine or self-isolate we can move our session to an online platform at late notice. If you cancel (by not attending in person or online) with less than 48 hours notice, the full cost of the session will be charged.
